‘Inferno without Borders’ is a French/English commission by France Télévisions and Nouvelle-Calédonie La 1ère to document the aftermath of the unprecedented bushfire season of 2019/2020 in Australia. The particular focus of this film was to explore indigenous methods of fire management in Australia and ask whether the use of such methods would have helped avoid such a disaster. We meet people who lost their homes in the fire, traditional fire practitioners, conventional firefighters, aboriginal elders and other characters in our exploration of what could have been done differently and why traditional aboriginal land management has been ignored for so long in this country.
