ʻEight Pairs of Shoesʼ follows an epic 8,500 km journey by foot: 29 year old Alwyn Doolanʼs walk from the tip of Cape York to Canberra, via Tasmania, to deliver a message from First Nations people to the Australian Government. Following the footsteps of the ancient songlines, Alwyn connects his soul and spirit with the land as he walks the whole east coast of Australia in a search for his own identity as a young indigenous man and to fight for the injustice of First Nations people in Australia.

Half way into his journey, Alwyn is joined by Mike Lawless, a retired white Australian teacher who becomes a supporter of Alwynʼs causes. Though the two have come from different backgrounds, they both share a common bond and Mike opens up about his reason for the journey: fulfilling a promise he made to his late wife on the night before she passed away from cancer.

On the final few months of his trip, a Federal Election is called, and it coincidentally falls on the exact day Alwyn is to arrive into Canberra.
